ABOUT US

In 1990 we purchased the original dock building company on Lake Keowee. When discussing how we would operate our business, one word was continuously used: “superior”, as in superior products, superior service, superior design, and superior people; it was not difficult to name our company Superior. We were originally named Superior Dock Company; we later changed the name to Superior Dock Systems, Inc to better reflect our product line and commitment to future technological enhancements.

Although we originally manufactured a painted steel boat dock, we introduced aluminum docks to the Upstate of South Carolina in 1995. We were dissatisfied with three different bolt-together lightweight aluminum kit dock manufacturers using aluminum decking and began our own manufacturing in 1998 to give our customers the quality they demanded. In early 2000, with a little help from those good people at OSHA, we discontinued our painted steel product line. Although this decision was initially to get away from the horrible application of paint on steel on the water and treated pine decking, we quickly realized our customers’ interest in a no-maintenance dock. We quickly abandoned steel docks entirely since the oils and the dust from steel manufacture contaminated our aluminum docks with dirt which was very difficult and time-consuming to clean. We introduced Ipe decking to the Upstate in 1999 which was quickly copied by upscale builders and dock companies as far away as Alabama.

From humble beginnings, we have grown to the most modern plant in the industry. We believe we have the only plant designed and constructed specifically to manufacture aluminum boat docks. Our 20,000 square-foot plant on an 8.5 acre site is strategically located between Lakes Keowee and Hartwell, just 11 miles from Interstate 85 at the Georgia state line. We receive trailer loads of aluminum in one end of the building and move finished product out the other end. From processing, we move aluminum into steel forming jigs to keep units square while we weld sections together whereupon they move to finishing. We can actually finish six docks under a crane inside the building at one time. Our purchasing power and size enable us to buy trailer loads of Ipe, aluminum, flotation and roof materials to give you the best value. While Superior continues to innovate, the competition tries to imitate.
