BUMPERS
Bumpers are used to protect your boat and the dock. We don’t know of anyone that has docked their boat every time without hitting something. We put bumpers all around the dock, even in places the boat is not supposed to be!
Horizontal bumpers are fastened to the deck with stainless steel screws and we use finish washers to improve the performance and aesthetics of the screws. We do have an option to cover the bumper with a polished stainless steel strip, but it is expensive. (We obtain this material from the supplier to Chaparral Boats). Our bumper is the heaviest, softest, no-skid vinyl you can buy for a residential dock and is reinforced inside with multiple cushioned chambers. This product is also known as rubrail, edge guard, cushion or bumper strip.
Since the boat may not always line up with the horizontal bumper on the edge of the deck, we also install vertical bumpers. We use a 3’ long rigid polyethylene vertical bumper cushion fastened to the frame and roof post. On dock designs where the roof does not extend all the way to the edge of the deck below, we weld a piece of 3” x 3” x 36” aluminum tubing to the dock frame. We cap the top of this post with aluminum so you don’t have bugs crawling out; you can also rest your cup or can there. The bottom of these bumpers are installed approximately 10” above the water, which puts the top of them 46” above the water. Boats with a larger freeboard may require two bumper posts stacked on top of each other.
