FinishingAfter our frames/walkways are fabricated, they are moved into our finishing section. Here the floats are positioned under the frame and bolted through a hole or slot molded into the float flange (we do not punch holes in watertight containers with screws as do many other dock builders). The decking is then applied, squared and predrilled with a countersink hole for the screwhead to provide a smooth flat surface for safety and comfort. Ipe decking is fastened with stainless steel square drive screws. Stainless is the only material that will not react with aluminum or the oils in Ipe thereby increasing dock longevity over any other fastener product. Two screws are fastened every 24" (we do not take shortcuts using two screws then alternating with one screw to save money). We bolt cleats through the decking and the frame. Special support is provided for fold down cleats and ladders that partially mount on the deck as well as the frame. A continuous horizontal bumper strip is applied to the perimeter with stainless steel screws and a stainless finish washer to eliminate any sharp edges. Finally, vertically bumper posts are partially affixed to the frame; they are permanently affixed once the roof posts are in place. |
